CSUN 10k

The boys and I went to the zoo again on Friday. Matt really likes seeing the animals and the bird show. We probably won't go again for awhile because it will be too hot. Micah didn't enjoy the zoo as much as Matt. Our poor baby was hot and tired. After the zoo we went to my sister's house for the afternoon and night. Karl met us there after work on Friday.
This morning my friend, Dawn, and I ran our debut race together. We did a 10k at Cal State Northridge. It was a fun race and we placed 2nd and 3rd in our age group, 30-34 years. Our time of 49:19 was the same but they gave Dawn 2nd and me 3rd...darn having a last name late in the alphabet!! Karl watched the boys while we ran. He got lucky and had some help because his boss, Clay, was there with his family. I asked Matt what he and Daddy did while I was running and he said "We went to Boston!" They are very efficient travelers! We then went back to my sister's and Karl took Matt swimming. Luke's first birthday party is next weekend so I helped my sister with planning. They are doing a "bath time" theme.
Micah has two teeth now. He got the lower front right tooth last Sat and the left came in on Thursday!
Tomorrow we plan on having a family day at home. The pictures posted are of Dawn and I at the race and Luke and Micah playing at Louise and Jon's house. Karl took the picture of Matt and I because we have a similier picture of Jeanette, Karl's mom, and him after a race she did when Karl was a baby!
Congratulation to John, Karl's uncle, for his acceptance into the radiology program in Chicago!

Boston Marathon

Karl completed the Boston Marathon this morning in 3 hours and 13 minutes! He was on pace to run under 3 hours but the hills around mile 20 got him. 3:13 is a great time and Karl seemed excited to be part of such a famous marathon. Congratulations Karl, we are so proud of you!
Karl comes home tomorrow night and we are anxious to hear more and see more pictures.

Boston or Bust!!

Karl left for Boston yesterday, 4/18, and arrived safely this morning. He has already been to the marathon expo where he listened to a few speakers, bought some treasures and got a few autographs. He said the weather is beautiful and the city is buzzing with runners. He plans to go watch the women's Olympic trials tomorrow. Karl is staying with Brad's sister and her husband. It was so nice of them to offer accommodations for Karl. Karl is so appreciative.
Yesterday the boys and I surprised Karl at work for lunch. His coworkers had a little Boston send off lunch for him. I took this picture in the morning and had a wallet size printed for Karl to carry in the pocket of his running shorts during the race. We miss you and are thinking about you! Think fast thoughts for Karl on Monday morning!

Matthew Swimming with Dad

Matt had his first swim lesson on Saturday. He had a great time. Matt is taking lessons with a friend, Mykaela. Her mom works with Karl. Mykaela did NOT enjoy swimming and spent most of the time watching from the pool deck with her mom! Maybe next week will be better for her! After swimming we had lunch at the Fox Airfield. This is a small airport by Apollo Park. Matt enjoyed running around the grass and watching the planes take off and land. We had a great Saturday morning.
I am attempting to learn how to edit video to post. This clip is my first attempt! Thanks for the help Karl!! Micah helped me film Dad and Matt swimming!

Poppy Hike

The boys and I took a trip to the Poppy Reserve this morning. It is about a 20 minute drive from our house (around Lancaster Blvd and 150th St. West). We had a nice time walking around looking at the flowers. It was beautiful out there. After a picnic lunch we headed home for naps! Tomorrow is Matt's first swim lesson of the summer. Check back for pictures. Have a great weekend!

Our Busy Week!

We had a week full of picture worthy events! Our caterpillars that we got at the Kidspace museum transformed, as they were supposed to, right before our eyes!! They formed a chrysalis, like a cocoon, and after a few days emerged into beautiful butterflies! It was really cool to see them emerge as they unfolded their wings, hung upside down for a few hours, then finally opened their wings to fly. We let them go in the back yard. Matt had a good time with it. "Bye bye butterflies!"

Matt got a playhouse for his birthday. Karl has been working hard in the evenings and weekends to put it together. So much for "easy adult assembly!" Karl finally finished "building the house" this week. We have been spending a few hours a day outside playing in it. The weather in the Antelope Valley gets extremely windy in the spring so we only go outside when Micah is sleeping.
We took a trip to the L.A. Zoo today. My sister, Jon, Luke and a friend and her family joined us. It was such a great trip! We accomplished more in the the first hour of this zoo trip then the whole day the first time I went with the boys. An equal ratio of kids to adults is such a benefit!! The pictures below are from today's trip. The other family we went with has a little boy, Max, who is almost 2 and a girl, Myra who is 3. Matt and Max have similar temperaments and they seem to get along well. Max's mom, Dawn, and I have become good friends and running buddies! We both have double running strollers and try to get out running together a few times a week. We are doing a 10K at the end of the month. I think Matt's highlight from today was the bird show. We went to a short 20 minute bird show and he really enjoyed it. He would clap for the birds after they performed their trick then look at Karl and say and sign "more birds!" Luke had a good time watching a listening to the howling monkeys! He was laughing and smiling at them. I think he could relate to them...he is a little monkey!!
We have our Mommy and Me class tomorrow and we are talking about mornings. The kids are wearing their pajamas and we are having waffles for snack. A trip to the doctor may be in store as well. Matt has had watery and crusty eyes for the past week. It doesn't seem to bother him and Micah had it a few weeks ago and it cleared but poor Matt 's eyes don't seem to be improving. We don't need to spread a weird eye plague to Karl with only 2 weeks before he runs in Boston. Actually, we don't need to spread anything around at Mommy and Me so we will evaluate in the morning! Have a good week everyone!

Bathtub Boys!

Micah and Matt's first bath together!
I will bring this picture out for the boys' prom dates!!

Micah had his 5 month well check last Thursday. He weighed in at 17lbs 3oz and 26.5 inches long. What a big boy! He is growing so fast. He sat for over 10 minutes on his own last week! Such an amazing little boy!
Matt started gymnastics and a Mommy and Me class. He goes once a week to each. He really seems to enjoy the classes. Little Micah is such a trooper and hangs out the the front carrier taking it all in!
